The model is Kira. Kira is not a stranger to the studio - but this was her first time officially in front of the camera. She came about a year and a half ago with one of her friends who was modeling for me. But because she was underage - she couldn't sign a release form to model... However, she didn't forget... and when she turned 18, I was one of the first people she contacted. After a few months of scheduling issues... I finally got her back in the studio.
Kira basically let me do what I wanted... she just wanted "hot photos." That's the type of open mindedness that I like in a model. We did some emotive portraits... some themed portraits... some pinups... and some artistic nudes for a gallery exhibit I am putting together. This is, of course, the pinuppy stuff. The makeup was done by both her and I. The grey/black eyeshadow and eyeliner is from the previous shoot which she put on. The pink and the lipstick - are all me baby. I am proud that I know my way around eyeshadow, lip stick, gloss, liner, plumper... and your mom. Comments
wow lovely picture... great composition of the pink-color... love the make-up and her "dress" hehe.. also perfect lightning..!! very good shot!!
-- have you already seen my recent deviation ?? Beautifully done! The color in the eyeshadow actually draws attention to the model''s face, which is atypical of many works of this nature. You have done justice to both her form and face. Wow!

Makeup is probably the hardest thing for a photographer to get right especialy for me, I would rather give the model direction on what I want to see and let them sort it out or find some else that could do it. I haven't got a clue having not picked up so much as a lips stick save to pass it to someone else lol. I felt the same way you did... until this one fateful day... when a model told me that she doesn't know a thing about makeup - because she never wears it. (It was a true statement... not fishing for compliments). Her friend, this dumpy raggamuffin says "oh... I will do it! I took classes..." This girl never took classes in makeup... let me tell you ... because when she was done... the models face was orange. WOAH! I didn't really notice how bad it was until after the shoot. The lights just made it worse... I figured it would wash it out. Nope.
It was at that moment that I vowed to learn as much as I could... informally. -- Gallery | Website | Photos and the Law I thought about it... but I find that the tight cropping gives it more of an invasion of personal space... and therefore a bit of intimacy that wouldn't be there if I pulled back a bit. I did crop it in PS - not in camera... so I could recrop the final one... BUT... it was a choice I made... and I don't look back.
-- Gallery | Website | Photos and the Law Very nicely done.
Only critiques: Not too fond of the material going across her breasts and poking out from underneath her right arm. I'd like the composition more if it were just across her pelvis and flowing out behind her. The eye makeup is a bit over the top for me. It takes away from the femininity of the piece, IMHO. Of course, I'm a firm believer that either the lips or the eyes should take center stage, not both. Considering her eye shape, I think just a bit of pale pink eyeshadow would've really brought out her eyes and not overwhelmed those beautiful lips. |
